Spicy Lentil Chickpea Hummus

  • 1 (14 oz) can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (14 oz) can of lentils, drained and rinsed
  • 4 cloves of roasted garlic*
  • Juice from one lemon
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 2-3 tbsp Gladstone Chipotle Hot Sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 2-3 tbsp water (as needed for desired consistency)

Directions

  • Place 4 cloves of garlic in a small saucepan with enough oil to cover the cloves.
  • Heat over medium heat until the garlic starts to gently brown, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Remove the garlic from the oil and save the oil for later use.
  • Drain and rinse the chickpeas and the Lentils.
  • In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, lentils, roasted garlic, lemon juice, and tahini. Blend until smooth, around 5 minutes.
  • Add the garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and Gladstone Chipotle Hot Sauce to the food processor.
  • Blend again until fully incorporated and the hummus has a smooth texture.
  • Gradually add water, one tablespoon at a time, blending after each addition until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning if needed. You can add more salt, lemon juice, or hot sauce to suit your taste.
  • Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Drizzle with a splash of olive oil and some additional hot sauce, sprinkle with chopped fresh herbs or crispy chickpeas if desired.
  • Serve with pita bread, crackers, fresh vegetables, or as a spread for sandwiches and wraps.

The hummus will keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 days in a sealed container.
